A key aspect of change has been the reformation of the children s workforce, with the emphasis on training to achive a workforce with overall higher level qualifications. Readings suggested that professional identity might be a theme to explore with members of the workforce in order to understand such aspirations, values, principles and beliefs.RH l 0޽h ? 3380___PPT10.v 0 t( tX t C t S 0 H t 0޽h ? 3380___PPT10.u\ 0 N F ( X C F S 0 Justification of quote and link to Vygotsky is the way in which the quote and Vygotskyan theory can be applied to the significance of the adults working with young children. Dewey s idea can be used in the context of emphasising the value of such intelligence and freedom for adults working with young children: the freedom to observe (non-intrusively?) and make judgements about their role, their practice, their expertise, their skills and their values. Vygotskyan theory has emphasised the role of peers and adults in supporting young children s learning, recognising when to support, when to withdraw, when to intervene. It s the ways in which practitioners perceive their professional lives and identity that is the theme for this presentation. So, let me set the scene in a little more detail. The first half of the presentation will provide a context for the research, which is still in its early stages, and then I will share some findings and ideas. I d like to end with some thoughts that I hope will provoke discussion and suggestions from the audience in trms of analysis and theoretical frameworks.WRH 0޽h ? 3380___PPT10. z 0 ( X C S H 0 H 0޽h ? 3380___PPT10.j 0 @z ( X C S 0 | The research I m reporting today is the outcome of the very early stages of my PhD research.
